Biden's at it again. Before packing his bags, he’s gearing up to drop an executive order banning new offshore drilling in parts of the U.S. coastal waters. It’s supposedly about “protecting marine ecosystems” and “fighting climate change” (cue applause from environmentalists). But let’s not kid ourselves—this move is also aimed squarely at kneecapping any future energy plans from Trump or whoever comes next. And guess what? He’s relying on some obscure 72-year-old law to make it really hard to undo.
This isn’t Biden’s first time playing the “block energy development” game either. Just this week, his team proposed killing off oil and gas leasing in Nevada’s Ruby Mountains. Seems like Joe's got a real knack for picking fights with industries that actually power the country. Meanwhile, the Gulf of Mexico, which produces 14% of our oil, just gets a shrug.
Of course, the oil and gas folks are sounding the alarm, pointing out that we’ll still need fossil fuels for decades (because, duh, you can’t run the grid on vibes and windmills). And let's not forget Biden’s paltry record on energy independence—nothing screams leadership like making us depend on imports while strangling our own resources.
Irony alert: Trump used the same law to protect waters near Florida and North Carolina when he was in office. But, you know, Biden’s playing the “holier-than-thou” card now, pretending this isn’t politics as usual.
At the end of the day, Biden’s trying to cement his green legacy with one foot out the door. The guy can’t fix basic economic issues but hey, let’s make energy pricier and harder to get. Bold move, Joe. Bold move. Pathetic old man.
